Google locking down Android ?

April 01, 2011 | By Andro ID

The only problem is that everyone fails to recognize the line brought up in a BusinessWeek article that sparked the hubbub latest Android: Google Android releases are always locked up in the early stages. Qualcomm and HTC have to play by the rules of Google for the Nexus One, and NVIDIA and Motorola followed the leader to be first to market with Motorola Xoom. Companies that want early access to the latest version of Android have to sacrifice their desire for highly-tweaked software in order to beat the other companies to blow. While this may anger a small company, it does not mean Google has fundamentally changed the plans for Android.

Discussions about openness and accuracy of the release of Google Android code has appeared several times, so nothing really changed on this article. It seems that the Android phone and tablet makers more upset that Google's practice of not giving them enough time to change the Android as much as they want. A dozen or so executives to use as a source for this article may seem upset that Google is tightening policy, but Google did not stand in the way of customization, a rep confirmed to us last week.

There are times when many people expect Google will be heavy-handed with Android because it will help relieve frustrasi that comes from the difference in the processor, leather, and hardware problems that make it so difficult for applications to function in a uniform way. But they doubt that will happen because it would provide less choice in terms of form factors and the quality of the phone. That's what makes Android rose to popularity and shifted from a strategy that could be a step backwards. Is Google's end game to get everyone in the building and then change the rules once the door was locked? Maybe but doubtful. Things in "Android Land" is the same as last year there, just with a bigger crowd to control
