The software has been greatly revamped and upgraded to keep pace – or outpace – Google’s rivals. The Galaxy Nexus is Google’s attempt to set a benchmark for what an Android phone should be. Built in collaboration with Samsung Mobile, the Galaxy Nexus (or GNex as I will call it unofficially) is the first device to run Android 4.0 aka Ice Cream Sandwich. This is the latest version of the Android operating system that will merge the phone and tablet efforts.

The Galaxy Nexus is launching first in the U.S., followed by Asia and Europe. It now holds the title of most appealing Android phone. However, no device seems to hold that title for more than 12 hours these days, so keep your eyes peeled for more.

As for the hardware that will be running that software, the GNex has a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor that’s 8.94mm thick with a 4.29mm bezel. It continues the trend of incredibly large display areas, common among Samsung devices released in 2011, by pushing the boundaries between phone and tablet at 4.65 inches. The screen is Super AMOLED Plus with 720p resolution.
