Android 4.0 for All 2011 Xperia Android Models

December 23, 2011 | By Andro ID

If you own a Sony Ericsson Xperia Android smartphone that launched in 2011, then you will definitely be pleased to know that Sony Ericsson plans to upgrade to Android Ice Cream Sandwich in the coming year. About a month ago, Sony Ericsson originally informed customers of its plan to upgrade the Xperia lineup to Android 4.0, but today, the company issued a detailed blog post explaining the upgrade timeframe for various devices as well as the upgrade process.

Beginning in the end of March running into April of 2012, the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S, Neo V, and ray are going to receive the coveted upgrade to Android 4.0. At the end of April running into early May, the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc, Play, neo, mini, mini pro, pro, active, and Live with Walkman will each receive the same upgrade.

As each smartphone model receives its upgrade, it is important to remember that the roll out will take place over several weeks as OTA updates never occur all at once. Essentially, you should expect a notification informing you that an upgrade for your Android software is available to download at some point between March and May. When this occurs, you should download and install the update through 3G, WiFi, or through your PC if you’re so inclined.

Now that Google’s Ice Cream Sandwich is out of the box, it is important for phone manufacturers to be honest with their customers by letting them know up front whether their phone will support Android 4.0 at some point in time. We recently saw Samsung detail their upgrade plans to the public, and I’m sure other manufactures will come forward in the coming weeks.
